Chevrei Tikva honors 25 years of service

by Paul Zeitzew

Beachwood, Ohio-Chevrei Tikva Chavurah, the center of the LGBT Jewish community in northeast Ohio, begins a sixmonth commemoration of their 25 years of service.

Founded by a group of men and women in November 1983, the group began meeting in people's homes once a month.

By 1985 the group moved to the Civic in Cleveland Heights. As the group grew, Shabbat services were held first and third Fridays each month.

More growth brought another move to the Unitarian Society on Lancashire Rd in Cleveland Hts. Pot luck Passover seders graduated to catered events at Fairmount

Chevrei Tikva Chavurah

Temple in Beachwood. To meet the desires of the congregation, all Jewish holidays are now celebrated.

In 2005 Chevrei Tikva merged with Fairmount Temple. This gave an opportu-

nity to take advantage of the resources of one of the largest Reform congregations in the U.S.

On Friday, November 7 at 8 pm, a Founders Service will be conducted by Brynna Fish, Gregg Levene and Barry, three of the original members. As in all services it will be held at Fairmount Temple. Oneg (refreshments/social hour) to follow. For more information call 216-464-1330 ext 149. Everyone is welcome.

Paul Zeitzew is a member of Chevrei Tikva Chavurah.
